5 Months Later....

Emily will be 5 months old tomorrow and I can't believe time has flown by so fast! It seems like yesterday we were bringing her home, though she doesn't look like the same kid. Her hair is growing so much and it's funny because her roots are blonder than her tips. I was born with black hair and Hector obviously has dark features so who knew we'd have this kid with blonde hair??

She weighs just under 15lbs and is about 26" long which is wonderful because I know eventually she will slow on the growing. I get really annoyed when people comment on her weight and call her chubby. Who ever heard of an anorexic baby?? She just cracked the 75% percentile on the typical charts so she's hardly overweight. She has an adorable belly which is typical for the kiddos with Down Syndrome so don't talk bad about it!! Some people are just stupid.

Going through parenthood changes everything, especially when you have a child with special needs. Fortunately, Emily is actually ahead of typical babies her age and shows no signs of delay. She's had no health problems which has been a blessing. I don't like to really compare her to the other kids with DS, but I have to. I feel so relieved because I know how bad it could be.

All of this rapid progression with her skills is causing some to question her diagnosis. The pediatrician at Baylor told me the report came back with her as a Trisomy 21, which is full blown DS with all the symptoms. This is the most common type. Now, we're starting to think the tests were wrong and she actually has Mosaic Down Syndrome which is a very mild version that doesn't affect all of her genes. We are ordering another karyotype to be done. If it comes back the same, then it doesn't change anything but will confirm my suspicions.
That's all I have for right now because it is getting late! Oh by the way, my friend Kristi took this picture last week and I LOVE IT!! Everyone keeps telling me it's a great moment!! Good job Kristi!!!!
